North Carolina played a lead role in the landmark national mortgage settlement with the country’s five largest mortgage loan servicers. This settlement provides as much as $338 million in assistance to North Carolina consumers and will help struggling homeowners by reducing principals and refinancing mortgages at lower interest rates.

You May Qualify for Assistance Under the National Mortgage Settlement
If you are a homeowner who is need of a loan modification, the settlement allows for first and second lien principal reductions and other forms of foreclosure prevention. If you are a homeowner who has seen your property value decline due to poor housing market conditions, you may be eligible for refinancing through the settlement. If you are a homeowner whose home was foreclosed between Jan. 1 2008, and Dec. 31, 2011, you may be eligible for a cash payment from your servicer.
