Cooking with CESI: Homemade Bargain Pet Treats

Recently, I bought a puppy, and if there’s one thing I’ve quickly learned, it’s that puppies aren’t cheap. You can never be quite sure what your new family member will want in the way of treats, but if you discover that your furry friend has a hankering for liver, the price might knock your socks off faster than the smell.  Depending on the size of your pet, the average liver treat can cost anywhere from $5-14 a bag, which can easily be a budget buster. Thankfully, I recently discovered a simple way to dramatically cut the cost of this mouthwatering training treat by preparing it at home.

Tell Fido to sit, stay and enjoy!

Raw chicken livers are readily available at the grocery store and cost approximately $2 per pound. Preparing liver treats at home not only cuts the cost by more than half, it also saves on gas since there’s no need to run to the pet store!  As a bonus, cats love it, too!
